How can we help?

Average response time under 90 seconds. Real humans, all timezones.

Getting started

How do I sign up for Mitu?

Download the Mitu app from the App Store or Google Play, enter your phone number, and follow the prompts. Verification takes about 90 seconds — we ask for your name, date of birth, and a photo of your government ID.

Which countries can I sign up from?

You can create a Mitu account from any of our 38 supported sender countries — including the US, UK, EU, Canada, Australia, Singapore, UAE, and most of Latin America. We're adding new sender countries every quarter.

What do I need to verify my account?

A government-issued photo ID (passport, driver's license, or national ID) and a quick selfie. For higher transfer limits we may ask for proof of address.

Is there a fee to sign up?

No. Creating an account, verifying your identity, and holding a balance are all free. You only pay a fee when you transfer.

Sending money

How fast do transfers actually arrive?

92% of transfers arrive in under a minute. Some destinations with bank-side cutoffs (e.g. cash pickup outside agent hours) can take longer — we always show the expected delivery time before you hit send.

What's the minimum and maximum I can send?

Minimums are $1 USD equivalent on most corridors. Standard daily limits are $25,000 sent and $50,000 received; verified business accounts can request higher limits.

Can I cancel a transfer after I send it?

If the transfer hasn't been picked up or delivered yet, you can cancel from the activity tab and we'll refund you in full. Once funds are delivered we can't recall them — but our team can help you coordinate with the recipient.

How do I track a transfer?

Every transfer has a unique tracking page. You and the recipient both get SMS and push updates at every stage: funded, in flight, delivered.

Can I schedule recurring transfers?

Yes — set up weekly, biweekly, or monthly transfers from the Schedules tab. You can pause, resume, or edit at any time without fees.

Receiving money

Does my recipient need a Mitu account?

No. They can receive money to a local bank account, mobile wallet, debit card, or as cash pickup — without ever installing Mitu. If they do have an account, the transfer is free and instant.

How does cash pickup work?

Your recipient gets a 6-digit code by SMS. They walk into any partner agent location, show ID, enter the code, and collect cash. We have 200,000+ pickup locations worldwide.

Can I send to a phone number I don't know is on Mitu?

Yes. If they're a Mitu user, the funds land instantly in their wallet. If they're not, they get a text with a link — they can claim the money to a bank account or sign up for Mitu.

Fees & exchange rates

What's the fee on a transfer?

0.4% on every transfer, every corridor. There's no minimum fee, no maximum fee, no tiered "premium" rate. We're proud of being boring on this.

How does Mitu make money?

The 0.4% transfer fee, a small flat fee on cash pickup ($0.99) and card top-up ($1.50), eSIM sales, and yields on operating reserves. We don't add a hidden FX margin — ever.

What exchange rate do you use?

The mid-market rate — the same one Google and Reuters publish. We update rates every 30 seconds and lock them for 60 minutes once you start a transfer.

Why is my fee higher than 0.4%?

Your transfer fee is 0.4%. If you're seeing a higher number, you may be looking at the combined fee + payment-method charge (e.g. a card processor's surcharge for funding by credit card). Bank funding is always free.

Trips & events

What does Mitu Trips do?

Trips is a travel planner for groups — itineraries, shared budgets ("Wallet Pots"), one-tap split, and built-in eSIMs. Free for everyone, no premium tier.

Are Wallet Pots FDIC-insured?

Funds in a Wallet Pot are held in segregated, pass-through-insured accounts at our tier-1 banking partner. US balances are insured up to $250,000 per beneficial owner.

What's the difference between Trips and Events?

Trips is for travel — itineraries, eSIMs, multi-currency. Events is for one-off gatherings (weddings, birthdays, reunions) — guest list, RSVP, gifts, and per-guest cost split. They share the same Wallet Pot engine.

eSIMs

Will an eSIM work on my phone?

If your phone was made after 2018 and is unlocked, almost certainly yes. iPhone XS and later, Pixel 3 and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later. We check compatibility before you buy.

How do I activate an eSIM?

One tap from inside the Mitu app. We provision the profile to your phone, you choose when it goes live (e.g. when you land), and we keep your home line active for calls and texts.

What if I run out of data?

You get push alerts at 75% and 95% of your plan. You can top up the same plan, switch to a bigger one, or buy a new region — all from inside the app.

Security & privacy

Is my money safe?

Yes. Customer funds are held in segregated tier-1 bank accounts and never touch our balance sheet. We're SOC 2 Type II certified, PCI DSS Level 1 compliant, and licensed as an MSB in every country we operate in.

What if my phone is stolen?

Sign in to mitu.com from any browser and freeze your account in one tap. Reverse it once you've got a new phone.

Do you sell my data?

No. We don't sell customer data, ever — to anyone, for any price. Read the full Privacy Policy for details.

Account & verification

How do I close my account?

Settings → Account → Close. We'll wire any remaining balance to your linked bank account and delete your data per local retention requirements (typically 5 years for AML records).

Why was my transfer flagged for review?

We screen transfers against sanctions lists and unusual-activity heuristics. Most reviews resolve in under 10 minutes. We'll always tell you why we paused something and what we need to release it.
